A Conversation Between Rick Hess and Mike Feinberg

REEP was thrilled to welcome Rick Hess back to Rice University a few days ago. Rick kicked off the last week of the REEP Summer Institute which focused on Innovation in the education industry. Rick is one of those high energy and thought-provoking presenters who easily connects with the audience keeping them totally engaged. Needless to say, our REEP students truly enjoyed his lectures and heated debates.

For those of you who don’t know Rick, here’s a little bit of his background.

He is an author, educator, and political scientist. Rick is the Director of Education Policy Studies at the American Enterprise Institute and Executive Editor of Education Next. He is known for his work on a range of educational issues including entrepreneurship, urban education, accountability, choice and charter schooling, governance, philanthropy, collective bargaining, and teacher and administrative licensure.

Rick is author of the Education Week blog “Rick Hess Straight Up.” He recently interviewed Mike Feinberg, co-founder of the KIPP Academies and superintendent of KIPP Houston, about his vision for KIPP Houston growth plan and the most valuable lessons he learned during his journey to change the face of the current education system.
